How To Avoid Bedtime Problems with Your Toddler
One of the more common issues that most parents have with their toddlers is the issue of bedtime problems. When toddlers are given too much control over their parents, they have the tendency to manipulate their parents into simply doing what they want, thereby creating these bedtime problems that parents encounter too often. Here are a couple of hints and tips on how you can avoid the bedtime problems that your toddler could be dishing out.
1. Maintain full control. Giving your child some form of control is actually a good idea. Letting your toddler pick the story book that you are going to read to him, or which pajamas he will be wearing to bed, allows him to think that he has the control over the situation. This will mean that your toddler would put much less of a resistance in the entire bedtime process, especially since your toddler thinks that he has control over the situation. However, make sure that you maintain full control over the entire situation. It is still up to you to determine when your toddler should sleep and where they should sleep.
2. Avoid too long midday naps. Toddlers only need about half an hour to an hour of napping. Allowing your toddler to take naps that lasts for over two to three hours will only make our toddler more hyper by the end of the day. This could mean trouble for you, especially when the time comes to put your toddler to sleep. He may find it difficult to sleep on the time that you want him to, so make sure that you monitor how lone your toddler take his naps during the day.
3. Tone down excitement in the evening. Once evening comes, you need to try and tone down your toddler’s excitement, especially if you want your toddler to sleep early or at least on the time that you want him to. Though getting your toddler to calm down, especially from a day of excitement and fun, can be difficult, but it is not impossible. You simply need to start early in the evening, and get your toddler to relax and tone down the excitement.
4. Avoid caffeine and snacks. When night time comes, you should avoid giving your toddler any snacks or caffeine that could perk him up some more, making it more difficult to get him to calm down later on in the evening.
5. Begin bedtime preparations early. Get your toddler to take a bath earlier instead of getting him to take a bath right before sleeping. The hot bath will help relax and calm your toddler down for the night.
Avoiding bedtime problems with your toddlers is not that difficult to do, especially if you know what steps you need to take to ensure that you get your toddler to bed with not much resistance and problems. Just follow these simple hints and tips, and you should be able to accomplish just that. Other people are reading here.
